JACL OLLI Class

Among the many things in life that we value, where does health fit in? Health is seen as a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a state of being; either you are healthy, or you are not. Wellness on the other hand, is a process, a continuous moving toward a greater awareness of yourself and the way in which environment, interpersonal relationships, nutrition, fitness, stress, and other factors influence you. You work toward becoming the best you can be without traditionally accepted limitations regarding your age, your race, or your genetic blueprint.

Illness and "health" are opposite states, but you can be ill and still enjoy "wellness" if you have a purpose to life, a deep appreciation for living, and a sense of joy. "Health" is a pretty simple concept; wellness on the other hand is a multifaceted and complex concept that involves much more than simple physical condition. Health is not something that is available to everyone. Moreover, wellness becomes a matter of self-evaluation and self-assessment. You may continually work on learning, and on making changes that will enhance your state of wellness; you can take the reins. Everyone despite physical limitations, disease, and ability, can enjoy wellness. Wellness is a full integration of physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well being - a complex interaction of the factors that lead to a quality of life.

Lion Dance Team Update

Happy Lunar New Year!

Coming off Sunday, February 14th, Lunar New Year Celebration, the team had 3 successful performances. On the following Thursday's event, students and faculty at Walter Colton Elementary were surprised, inspired and delighted. We presented at four very diverse venues this past week. Major improvements all throughout the team, especially our newer members. The team is performing the best ever to date! Let's keep it going. Where do we go from here? We'll continue to reinforce and learn everything we've been working on to date: percussion rhythms, dance movements, footwork, posture, drills, etc. As for the next level, one, we'll be moving on to learn the advanced percussion rhythms and corresponding dance movements. Two, we'll continue to develop and begin a new routine. Three, we'll start on jumping and lifting practices. Four, work on individual team member's role and how it interfaces with each other team members ability to perform their best. So get ready to dance!

Note: CSUMB Lion Dance Club, current status for acquisition of the Lion Dance Drum?

Upcoming performance events:

  • March 25th, Thursday: Carmel High School Workshop.
  • April 27th, Tuesday: Private Event.

Regular Class Schedule - JACL: 6:30PM, Tuesday, Downtown Monterey AND CSUMB Dance Studio: 5:00pm, Friday.
